Spring 2024 Studio Policy

EXPECTATIONS
Each student must have an acoustic or digital piano, with maintenance and tuning 1-2 times a year, a metronome, an assignment book, and a specific time set aside daily for practice. Each student agrees to keep a daily record of practice and to prepare the complete lesson assignment each week.

LESSON ATTENDANCE
There are no make-ups or refunds for missed or canceled lessons. This includes extended weeks of missed lessons for camps and vacations. I have scheduled full teaching days and am unable to extend my schedule. I have reserved a special time each week for your lesson. Please make it a priority to attend your lessons. Advanced notification of a student’s absence is requested as a courtesy, but does not exempt the student from payment as contracted. Make-ups or refunds will be offered in the rare event that I need to cancel a lesson. Due to a lengthy waiting list, monthly lesson times will not be reserved without full payment. Tardiness: A specific day and time is reserved for you. Please arrive promptly for your scheduled lesson time. If you arrive late to your lesson, you will only have the remaining lesson time.

Pianocademy will be closed for the following holidays:

Spring Break: April 1 - 5

*Please check the online calendar https://www.pianocademy.net/calendar for full studio schedule.

TERMINATION OF LESSONS:
Notice of lesson termination must be given in writing, via mail or email, not verbally over the phone or voice mail, 4 weeks in advance. Students do not have to attend lessons for the 4 weeks after notice has been given, but are responsible for the payment of the next 4 weeks. Lessons may be terminated at the discretion of Asuka Restauri for any reason, and for lack of practice, frequent absences, behavioral problems, delinquency in payment of fees, or failure to abide by the studio policy.

PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS
Students benefit from in-studio or virtual private lessons that foster their musical growth.
a)    Virtual lessons may be conducted via Zoom or FaceTime
b)    Students may request online lessons for any reason, including illness, transportation issues. A device such as a mobile phone, ipad, or computer and adequate internet service is required at the student’s home for online lessons.
c)    Proper piano technique and sight-reading skills are emphasized from the very beginning. Beginning students master basic piano skills with various method books. Intermediate students learn pieces by composers representing each of the four style periods of music history: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary. These composers include Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Kabalevsky, and Bartók, etc.
d)    Practice Goals: Students or parents must keep track of daily practice times and fill it in the practice chart.

IN-PERSON STUDIO RULES

a)   Please wait until it is your lesson time to enter the studio.  Door will be unlocked.  Please knock or ring the doorbell if door is locked.

b)    Please use the restroom at your home before coming to piano lessons, if possible. If you need to use the restroom at my studio, please wash thoroughly with soap and use the disposable paper towels.
c)    Since the studio is in the teacher’s personal residence, students and parents should be mindful and stay in the “studio space” during the lesson and only leave this area to use the restroom.

d) Parents may also choose to wait in the car or my backyard. Parents can enter the backyard through the side gate and wait on the chairs.
e)    Use hand sanitizer gel when entering the piano room
f)    Please wear facemask at your own discretion (for example if you have a mild cough)
g)    Please do not come for in-person lessons if you are experiencing the following symptoms (you may opt to do a virtual lesson instead):
•    Fever (≥100.4°F) in the past 72 hours
•    A cough, sore throat, or runny nose
•    Difficulty breathing
•    Chills, muscle pain, fatigue, or a headache
•    A recent loss of taste or smell
•    Have been in close contact with anyone who has COVID-19 or had any of the above symptoms in the last 10 days
h)   Do not chew gum or eat candy during your lesson.

i)   No food allowed in studio. Bottled water is allowed.
j)    Trim nails before coming to lessons. Nails should be trimmed every few days so that good hand position can be achieved while practicing.
