Spring 2023 Studio Policy
Each student must have an acoustic or digital piano, with maintenance and tuning 1-2 times a year, a metronome, an assignment book, and a specific time set aside daily for practice. Each student agrees to keep a daily record of practice and to prepare the complete lesson assignment each week.
There are no make-ups or refunds for missed or canceled lessons. This includes extended weeks of missed lessons for camps and vacations. I have scheduled full teaching days and am unable to extend my schedule. I have reserved a special time each week for your lesson. Please make it a priority to attend your lessons. Advanced notification of a student’s absence is requested as a courtesy, but does not exempt the student from payment as contracted. Make-ups or refunds will be offered in the rare event that I need to cancel a lesson. Due to a lengthy waiting list, monthly lesson times will not be reserved without full payment. Tardiness: A specific day and time is reserved for you. Please arrive promptly for your scheduled lesson time. If you arrive late to your lesson, you will only have the remaining lesson time.
Pianocademy is a year-round program and follows a school type of schedule. Tuition is due and payable at the beginning of each semester. Tuition includes 18 reserved lessons per semester (virtual or in-person), participation in virtual studio classes and recitals, teacher’s administrative time and prep and attendance for events. Breaks and holidays have been excluded from fees. Lessons will not be held on most bank holidays. Fees are not refundable.

TERMINATION OF LESSONS:

Students do not have to attend lessons for the 4 weeks after notice has been given, but are responsible for the payment of the next 4 weeks. Lessons may be terminated at the discretion of Asuka Restauri for any reason, and for lack of practice, frequent absences, behavioral problems, delinquency in payment of fees, or failure to abide by the studio policy.
PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS
Students benefit from in-studio or virtual private lessons that foster their musical growth.
a) Virtual lessons may be conducted via Zoom or FaceTime
b) Students may request online lessons for any reason, including illness, transportation issues. A device such as a mobile phone, ipad, or computer and adequate internet service is required at the student’s home for online lessons.
c) Proper piano technique and sight-reading skills are emphasized from the very beginning. Beginning students master basic piano skills with various method books. Intermediate students learn pieces by composers representing each of the four style periods of music history: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary. These composers include Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Kabalevsky, and Bartók, etc.
d) Practice Goals: Students or parents must keep track of daily practice times and fill it in the practice chart.
IN-PERSON STUDIO RULES DURING COVID-19
*Emails will be sent to the parents and/or students for any change in virtual/in-person lesson status
a) For in-person lessons all students 5 years of age or older, and parents or legal guardians accompanying child to lessons must provide an image of proof of vaccination
b) Enter the house quietly. Please do not knock or ring the doorbell. Please use the restroom at your home before coming to piano lessons, if possible. If you need to use the restroom at my studio, please wash thoroughly with soap and use the disposable paper towels.
c) Since the studio is in the teacher’s personal residence, students and parents should be mindful and stay in the “studio space” during the lesson and only leave this area to use the restroom.
d) Use hand sanitizer gel by the entrance before coming into the piano room
e) Only students from the same household and up to 1 fully vaccinated parent/guardian will attend the lesson.
f) Parents may also choose to wait in the car or my backyard. Parents can enter the backyard through the side gate and wait on the chairs.
g) Facemasks are strongly encouraged
h) Please do not come into the house until your lesson time. If you arrive early, please wait in the car or in the backyard.
i) Please do not come for in-person lessons if you are experiencing the following symptoms (you may opt to do a virtual lesson instead):
• Fever (≥100.4°F) in the past 72 hours
• A cough, sore throat, or runny nose
• Difficulty breathing
• Chills, muscle pain, fatigue, or a headache
• A recent loss of taste or smell
• Have been in close contact with anyone who has COVID-19 or had any of the above symptoms in the last 10 days
j) Do not chew gum or eat candy during your lesson.
k) Bring your own stationery and water
l) Trim nails before coming to lessons. Nails should be trimmed every few days so that good hand position can be achieved while practicing.
m) Please observe “No Parking” signs as posted in streets.
What I will be doing to keep you safe:
a) Be fully vaccinated
b) Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces in the studio
c) Wear a mask during the lesson
d) Avoid any physical contact with students
e) Frequently wash/sanitize my hands
f) Offer a virtual lesson instead if I experience any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with anyone who has COVID-19 or had symptoms in the last 10 days
g) Continue to monitor LA County Health Department for COVID-19 updates and adjust the studio’s protocol accordingly
Thank you for your interest and support. A studio that runs smoothly allows more time for learning and musical fun!
